Recently I conducted an interview with Purdue DE/OLB, Akin Ayodele. The 6'2", 251-pounder was recently clocked at a 4.62 in the forty and plans on participating 100% in all combine activities. He was a three time All-Big Ten selection(Twice 2nd team, once 1st team)and is one of the most athletic players at his position(s). Some teams are looking for Aydodele to bulk up ten pounds and play DE, while others are looking at him to remain at his current weight and use him as a SAM LB. Whatever position Akin plays, he will surely bring alot of athleticism and play making ability to it. Below is some info on Akin, followed by our interview.

INTERVIEW:

Q: What kind of person will an NFL team be getting when they draft you?

A.A.: They'll get someone who loves to work, loves the game, and knows what I need to do to get better. I'm a natural leader who is outspoken when I need to, but I let my play do the talking. I carry myself in a professional manner and will always stay humble.

Q: What have you heard about your current draft status?

A.A.: I've been told I could go as high as the 2nd round. Usually I hear 2nd or 3rd round though.

Q: What do you have planned for lif after football?

A.A.: I have a degree in Sports Psychology, so I'd like to use that. I'm thinking about coaching. I'd also like to get into the entertainment business. We'll see what happens.

Q: What are your biggest playing strengths?

A.A.: I'd have to say my pass rush skills, my ability to play the run, and my football intelligence.

Q: Do you have any weaknesses that you are looking to improve on?

A.A.: I don't think I have any physical weaknesses. I feel I could be a better study in the film room though. Playing wise, I feel really good though.

Q: Are you physically ready for the NFL?

A.A.: I believe I am. I am in great shape. I will be ready to play every week and will surely be able to hold my own no matter what is asked of me.

Q: Are you mentally ready as well?

A.A.: Not 100% mentally ready, but I believe I can handle whatever comes my way. I am preparing myself right now, so I'm sure I'll be able to adjust properly.

Q: What are your goals for your rookie year?

A.A.: I just want to start and contribute in any way possible. I'll play special teams, OLB, DE, whatever. I just want to be on the field and help my team win games.

Q: After your career is over and you look back on it, how do you want to be remembered?

A.A.: I want to have accomplished all of my goals and I'd like to set the standard for how defensive players should play the game.

Q: Do you model your game after anyone past or present?

A.A.: Honestly, No. I like watching Ray Lewis and Michael Strahan because they go all out on every play and that's how I play. I respect them a great deal.

Q: Will you participate in 100% of the combine drills?

A.A.: I certainly plan on it. That's a way for me to move up draft boards, so I want to take advantage of that.

M.G.: Thanks for your time Akin and good luck!!

A.A.: Thanks Matt!

I'd like to thank Akin for taking the time to do the interview. Good luck in the future Akin!!!
