With a little over a week before the combine, I caught up with Notre Dame's highly regarded DT/DE prospect, Anthony Weaver. The 6'3", 290-pound Weaver has added nine pounds to his frame in recent weeks while training in Florida and has become stronger and faster and helping his draft status in the process. He's considered to be one of the top DT's available in this draft and is also considered to be a legitimate DE prospect as well. His versatility is what sets him apart from the other defensive line prospects in the draft and if he works out well at the combine and at Notre Dame's pro day, he could solidify himself as a top 30 pick. Below is some info on Tony, followed by the interview.

INTERVIEW:

Q: What kind of person will an NFL team be getting when they draft you?

A.W.: They'll get a man of good character, a proven winner, and a very smart player.

Q: What do you have planned for life after football?

A.W.: I'd like to return to my hometown(Saratoga Springs, NY)and become a teacher and football coach. I also look forward to having a family one day and raising my children.

Q: What have you heard about your current draft status?

A.W.: I've heard I can go anywhere from 20-32 in the first round.

Q: What are your biggest playing strengths?

A.W.: My biggest strengths are my quickness off the ball, my ability wo win the battle of leverage, and my overall football intelligence.

Q: Do you have any weaknesses that you need to improve on?

A.W.: I think there is room for me to get better in my overall game. I want to be the best player I can be and I don't feel I am there yet.

Q: Are you physically ready for the NFL?

A.W.: Definately! I am a strong player and am prepared for the challenges of the NFL. I have been well coached eher at Notre Dame and I am confident that I can come in and play at a high level right away.

Q: Are you mentally ready as well?

A.W.: Yes I am. Going to Notre Dame and having to deal with the media and the pressure to perform at a high level every week, I know I can handle the mental part of the NFL. Notre Dame has surely helped me get ready for the next level.

Q: What do you want to accomplish as a rookie?

A.W.: I'd like to come in and start every game. I don't just want to start though, I want to make an impact and let the team who drafts me know that they made the right choice.

Q: How do you want to be remembered when your football career is over?

A.W.: I want people to remember as one of the best defensive linemen to play the game. I think that's every player's goal. We all want to be the best.

Q: Now that Notre Dame has found it's new head coach in Tyrone Willingham, what do you as a Notre Dame alumni think of the new era that is beginning in South Bend?

A.W.: I think Coach Willingham is a perfect fit for the program. We needed a change and I think he will surely bring Notre Dame back to national prominance. It's ashame that things didn't work out with Coach Davie or george O'Leary, but I think we definately found our man. I think Notre Dame will win a National Championship within the next three or four years.

Q: Do you plan on working out at the combine?

A.W.: Oh yeah! I will work out and show that I am one of the better defensive linemen in the draft.

M.G.: It was great speaking with Tony and I wish you all the best in the future!

A.W.: It was good talking to you too Matt! Thanks!

I'd like to thank Anthony for taking the time to speak with me. Good Luck in the future Tony!!!
